Koh Por is a small island near Koh Lanta, in the South of Thailand. It can be reached by longtail taxi from Koh Lanta Yai / Old Town pier within 15 minutes. If you like to enjoy deserted beaches off the beaten path, this is a great option for a one-day-trip.
Small beachfront bamboo huts for rent are offered for those who want to benefit a bit longer from the calm atmosphere on this island.
From Koh Por you have a great view on Koh Lanta and many other very small and mostly uninhabited islands close-by. The island has a small village and a school. On Koh Por you will find many coconut trees and rubber trees as this is part of the local’s income. Fishing is still playing an important role in the life of the Muslim community living there.
Having said that, I recommand to dress appropriate when arriving on the island. In situations like this, I am always happy to have my beach towel with me to cover shoulders or use it as a skirt when wearing shorts. On Koh Lanta and on beaches in general, it is no problem to wear swimwear but when visiting smaller and more layed back villages it is more politely to adapt a little bit. As Krabi region is in the Southern part of Thailand, close to Malaysia, there are less Buddhist than Muslim people living there.
