Chiang Mai is the biggest city in the North of Thailand. It is an important cultural landmark. Although it is one of the biggest cities in Thailand it is quite calm compared to Bangkok. The locals are relaxed and friendly.
There are many temples and statues to be visited in Chiang Mai. The city center is surrounded by the old city wall. You can find a lot of handcraft all over the city which is sold at the local markets.
The city is a good starting point for excursions into the jungle and the nearby mountains. There is also an Elephant Nature Park close-by which I can highly recommend for a day-trip.
