If you require a reliable internet connection during your trip through Thailand or Cambodia, I can totally recommend to go for a tourist sim card (or even a local SIM card) for your mobile phone. You can get huge data volume included for only 5-8 EUR per week. Available in most 7/11 and other mini market shops as well as some electronic shops, it is valid for 1, 2 or 4 weeks including a local phone number and budget for making phone calls. We like it a lot as we are sometimes using the phone as our shared router which works alright in times when the “WiFi is not working today“. Or simply when we want to search on the internet for an available hotel while lying on the beach.
Don’t forget to bring your passport with you when buying your tourist sim card. You will need it for the registration. Ask the staff at the shop to help you activating the card. They are quick doing it and it will save you some time. With the help of a local friend, you can even buy a local SIM card which is often even cheaper or offers better conditions at the same price. As you will have to get it started on your own, it will be helpful to have someone translating the cryptic signs…
